Acer eMachines E510 - The beauty and the beast

August 2, 2008

In the past few days I was able to test an eMachines E510 notebook, fabricated by Acer.

The notebook’s design is quite nice, the case is black and the LCD is high quality, bright and my only issue with it was the reflections. It’s like a mirror, you can see yourself in it. Quite annoying.

The processor of the notebook is a an Intel Celeron with a FSB working at 533 MHz, the clock speed is 2.13 GHz and 1 Meg of cache. The notebook is shipped with 2 gigs of memory so in combination with the processor, this computer is an extremely good choice for, even advanced and graphics, animations heavy office work.

For the sake of why not, I decided to try to view a HD video (720p). For my shock, it was played smoothly. As the E510 has an additional VGA port to send the video output to an external device, for example a HD Ready TV-set with VGA input port, the eM-E510 is excellent for viewing high definition clips and movies directly on your television.

Acer eMachines E510

Usually notebooks are not recommended for playing games. This rule applies on the eMachines E510 too. Even though the processor speed and the amount of RAM is high enough for playing mid-range games like the Elder Scrolls: Oblivion, when i tried playing it, the performance was poor. This is the result of the low-end video-card integrated in the system, an Intel GMA X3100 with shared memory (up to 358MB).

The notebook comes with preinstalled, bootable Linux. Changing the OS can give some headaches for the beginner user. By default, the SATA mode is set to AHCI, Advanced Host Controller Interface. If you let it as is, setting up *any* type of Windows will fail.
My first test was to install Windows XP Professional, but while setup, the installer couldn’t find the installed HDD, a Hitachi 160 Gig (5200 rpm). This could be solved only by setting the SATA mode to IDE, when the installer ran without any issue. The next issue appeared when, after the first boot Windows informed me about some missing drivers: for the Broadcom LAN card, the video card and the High Definition Audio sound card. I thought not a problem, since I got with the notebook a DVD containing additional software and drivers. I was wrong: the DVD contained drivers ONLY for Vista, so my only option was to download the drivers from the internet, but since the LAN card wasn’t working, the option wasn’t plausible.
To install Windows XP on an eMachines E510, you have to switch the SATA Mode from AHCI to IDE from within the BIOS, else the installation will fail. To use AHCI with Windows XP, first you have to install XP in IDE mode, install the AHCI drivers, THEN switch the AHCI on in the BIOS.
Update: there’s a workaround posted in the comments section of this page, please scroll down to see it.
The next test was installing Windows Vista Ultimate. As the installer is much more advanced than the XP’s, i thought there will be no issue. Again, I was wrong: the computer halted when Vista tried to configure its software. The solution was again to switch the AHCI off, then the installation didn’t fail. But just for the sake of the fun, if you switch later AHCI on, Vista will not boot. At all. The only fix was coming from Microsoft’s Knowledge Base. If you read it, the whole thing is very logical and dumb in the same time.

The Li Ion batteries resisted 1 hour and 57 minutes when the notebook was used for typing this article and 54 minutes when I was viewing a HD video. I’d rate this performance as excellent for its class.

The WLAN device was working properly in any condition. It was able to connect to a desktop computer from almost 100 meters, but at this distance the drop of the transfer was considerable.

The price of the Acer eMachines E510 is $500 + VAT where I live. Generally, the performance was very good for office work and even for HD media display. In comparison with its price, I would say that it’s an awesome choice for business-men or bloggers who travel a lot. I’d recommend it for almost anyone.

Important Update: One of the comment authors, M!llu was kind enough to provide the XP drivers for the eMachines e510 notebook on an alternative download site, accessible for anyone, thanks to Rapidshare. You can find the download-links by clicking here. I checked all the files and couldn’t find any threat in them, not even false positive.

Update: If you’re sick of searching for XP drivers for the eMachines e510, the official support website of eMachines provided them here: http://support.emachines.com/em/driver/nb/e510.html. If you click the link, you will find both Vista and XP drivers, and additionally the users’ manual for the eMachines e510.

By the way, at the time of the post I couldn’t find *any* driver for the notebook, not for Vista, nor for XP or other OSes. The website, http://www.emachines.com is dead for good, Acer has no information about the eMachines laptops on its official website, Google listed only people searching for software.
I guess the only solution is the drivers CD/DVD provided with the notebook. :|

  2. methode on Sun, 3rd Aug 2008 2:47 pm

I think I found a workaround to get some XP drivers: the eM E510 is very similar to an Acer notebook, the Extensa 5220, and some of the E5220 drivers are compatible with the eMachines E510.
I downloaded the necessary drivers from here: http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/notebook/ex_5220.html , installed them and everything was cool, no issues or conflicts.

    Hope this helps

My daughter have a same laptop, and I can’t set the size of vga card in BIOS… (is very sily with 8mb vga)

  6. methode on Fri, 15th Aug 2008 6:16 pm

    Hi kalasnykov,

As far as I know the Intel 965 Express Chipset can not be altered from the BIOS, I saw is listed that it’s using 8MB of system memory (shared). However, when I had Vista Ultimate installed, the OS allocated 32 MByte of memory for the VGA. Under XP and Windows 2003 it was defaulted 8MB though.
The fact that Vista can do the above is the result of its innovative architecture. Even if the gadgets and all the other stuffs are broken, the architecture is well done :D

I’m writing this comment from the eMachine e510 notebook, still using it and my only issue with it is that sometimes th touch-pad is not responding. To fix it, I have to switch it off then back on again. Kinda weird :|

    Hi,
I just have buy this computer.
I’ve formated my system and i’ve installed win xp pro instead of vista. I have also installed some drivers (intel gl960 and graphics x3100) but, in the system proprietes i still have some problems with peripherical : ethernet and pci. The problem is that i can’t have any access to internet and no sound. I suppose that i’ll have to install the drivers from the Acer’s website, the one you gave the adress upper. But i’m not sure about which driver : Lan Broadcom and audio realtek? Thank you very much for your help.

  11. methode on Sat, 23rd Aug 2008 7:13 pm

Yes, those are the ones you’d need.
It’s kinda odd that we have to download the drivers from the internet but without internet connection (if LAN).

Please do not post your e-mail address in public.

  19. methode on Sat, 30th Aug 2008 7:40 pm

    Hi M!llu,

I don’t really think it would be a very good idea to publish on a 3rd party website the drivers as it’s prohibited by eMachines (see manual of the notebook).

If you really want to do it, I advice to post it on a file deposit service like RapidShare then provide the link to the file either here or on your own website (if you have of course)

    Thanks for the comment

  20. M!llu on Sun, 31st Aug 2008 6:42 am

i will post the drivers on RapidShare as soon as i get home. Now I am on holiday but next week all drivers shall be shared and you shall enjoy the power of the e510. Cheers

  21. M!llu on Sun, 31st Aug 2008 9:45 am

FIRST OF ALL WHEN YOU WANT TO INSTALL XP ON THIS MACHINE YOU MUST ENTER IN THE LAPTOP’S BIOS AND SWITCH THE HDD INTERFACE FROM AHCI TO SATA THEN YOU CAN INSTALL XP.
AFTER YOU INSTALL XP HERE ARE THE DRIVERS I USED:
    FOR AUDIO : http://rapidshare.com/files/141501935/Audio_Realtek_v5.10.0.5423_XP.zip.html
    INTEL CHIPSET : http://rapidshare.com/files/141502094/Chipset_Intel965_v8.2.0.1012_Vista_XP.zip.html
    LAN : http://rapidshare.com/files/141502210/LAN_Broadcom_v10.26.0.0_XP.zip.html
    VGA : http://rapidshare.com/files/141502419/VGA_Intel_6.14.10.4837.zip.html
    WIRELESS : http://rapidshare.com/files/141502528/Wireless_Atheros_XB63_v5.3.0.45_XP.zip.html
    VGA 2 : http://rapidshare.com/files/141502784/winxp_14344.zip.html

I INSTALLED BOTH VGA DRIVERS AND IT WORKS PERFECTLY SO GO AHEAD.
    ENJOY!

There’s a very easy way to enable AHCI after installing XP under IDE mode:
    http://expertester.wordpress.com/2008/07/27/how-to-enable-ahci-windows-xp/

I tried other methods with no positive results. This one worked fine.

    Here is another tutorial :

    http://www.theacerguy.com/2008/06/16/how-to-install-the-ahci-drivers-after-installing-xp-in-ide-mode/

    I have a question,

my CPU fan is ON every 30 seconds for only about 10 seconds then it turns OFF and get ON again.I dont get it. If it is overheating problem why is not ON for about a minute to cool the cpu down. This way its continuously ON and OFF.Its really annoying.

Anybody else have the same problem ?

  36. Logi on Tue, 16th Sep 2008 3:46 pm

I forgot to add the computer is Acer eMachines E510.

  37. methode on Tue, 16th Sep 2008 3:53 pm

Yeah, the one i’ve tested was doing the same thing. When we measured the CPU temperature it was in its normal limits though, so I guessed it turns on and off to keep the cpu below 40 degrees Celsius. But it was very quiet, thus it wasn’t annoying at all.
Yours is noisy? If so, you could try to get back to the firm you bought from and ask them to replace it. Noisy notebook is not good at all. :)

  38. Logi on Tue, 16th Sep 2008 4:38 pm

No it’s not to noisy at all.But the thing that’s bother me is the continuously ON and OFF.It’s my first notebook and I guess is just one of those thing I need to get used to.

    Thanks for reply.

please help me,how to format hd on eMachine?

  40. methode on Thu, 18th Sep 2008 4:20 pm

Well, that’s not hard at all. You want to switch from one OS to other I guess, and all you need is a clean hard, right?

If that’s the case, just get XP or Vista bootable CD/DVD and start to install. You will be asked which partition you want to install on, and, if you want to quick or full format that drive.

In the first place you have to switch AHCI off from the BIOS else none of the installers will work, XP will not find the HDD, Vista on the other hand will halt at a specific point.

Let me know if you need more help.

  41. Kirov on Sat, 20th Sep 2008 8:41 am

How hot does the e510 get after let’s say 5-6 hours of use? I’m considering buying this model so I’m interested in it’s durability (low funds here)
Do the drivers posted by M!llu really work perfectly for XP?

Thank you for your time and assistance!

  42. methode on Sat, 20th Sep 2008 10:28 am

I bought this notebook for myself too, and currently I’m using it plugged in for about 7-8 hours now and it didn’t get “hot” at all. Measured, the hottest spot on it is 37.3 degrees Celsius, the room temperature is 24 degrees, so the notebook’s temperature is very good.
I’m extremely satisfied with this notebook, really. Considering its price is an awesome thing. Not as good as the EliteBook I recently played with (http://devoracles.com/warning-the-hp-elitebook-6930-may-resist-more-than-you-can/188) , but it’s worth every penny.

As for the drivers. Well. I tested it and each was OK. If don’t trust those drivers, you can find some here: http://uk.emachines.com/uk/support/eME510.html

    Hope I helped

  43. Kirov on Sat, 20th Sep 2008 3:41 pm

Thank you for the information. I guess now I’m off saving the money… :) Btw, English is not my native language so if the word ,,hot” was inappropriate in this context I apologize.

  44. methode on Sat, 20th Sep 2008 5:07 pm

No probs, glad i could help. BTW, there’s nothing wrong with your English ;)

If you’re in buying a notebook, and you have a little time, wait a bit with it. I’m testing two other notebooks at the moment, both are cheap ones, so you might be interested.

  45. Kirov on Sun, 21st Sep 2008 3:54 am

Hehe,it should take me about 5 months to save 500$ so I have all the time in the world to decide which one to buy. I’ll keep an eye out on your site for those evaluations.
    Cheers!

i also buy emachines e510 and its work ok, i just have 2 problems, first is with entering bios, i hit f2 and del and nothing happens, it just continue to loading xp?! and second is vith video card, is probably 8mg, anyone knows how to allocate more memory?! by the way, i dont installed this drivers posted by M!llu yet so maybe they fix my problem vith graphic (i hope so)!

  48. M!llu on Sun, 21st Sep 2008 5:01 pm

    for Phelipe
When you turn on your e510 you should see an white “e” on the black screen and in the bottom right corner what keys you should press to enter BIOS or change boot settings. pay a little attention and you should succeed. but if pressing f2 to enter the BIOS doesn’t work contact the vendor.
Go ahead and install those video drivers and you shall enjoy 384 Mb of video memory. I have installed those drivers and I have no problem since.

  49. Phelipe on Sun, 21st Sep 2008 6:06 pm

thank u M!llu, i go tonight to install drivers, im not home now… y, i press F2 and nothing happend :( i must contact vendor as u say… tnx a lot!

  50. methode on Sun, 21st Sep 2008 6:51 pm

    Hey Phelipe,

Sorry for the late answer… life… you know

So, before contacting the vendor as M!llu suggested, try something: You CAN enter the BIOS pressing F2, the problem is that the period of time while you can press that dam button is too short sometimes. So, the solution is, You do see that huge “E”, right? That’s the boot screen, after that disappeared pres Ctrl+Alt+Del, XP or Vista started to load that time but fear nothing, the OS will not be demaged. The result will be, as the CMOS has to reload itself completely, you will see the E screen for a longer time, and in the lower right corner the instructions to enter the BIOS UI.

    Try it please ;)

  51. methode on Sun, 21st Sep 2008 6:58 pm

    Howdy bas.boe,

How many Watts? Uhh, that’s a hard question, I have to admit. The battery charger’s max output is 65 Watts, I hope that’s what you asked.

If you want, I give you the ID of the charger then you can look it up on Google: LiteOn N18152 which is a standard Acer charger.

Emachines e510 comes with 2 Gigs of RAM, that’s around 2048 Megabytes of RAM. The video RAM is shared, the minimum is 8Megs.

I hope I helped, if not, feel free to ask

What you did, is to let your windows select the best suitable driver for your cam. When you got the black screen, the issue was that the driver was not compatible with the cam, that was all.

Anyway, glad it helped and your welcome.

Hello all i am about to buy one of Acer’s models well one of em is e510 .. So i need to know something , is Intel unlocked Hardware T&L support for X3100 Gfx in hes drivers ? Coz i heard something that only software rendering works (fro now) , no am not extreme gamer but yea i need to have some games played :)

  64. methode on Fri, 26th Sep 2008 6:45 pm

    Hi makiztar,

I said in the review that i don’t recommend it for gaming purposes, but on my end, using Windows Vista at the moment, hardware acceleration is working fine. Regarding the Intel X3100’s hardware transform and lighting (T&L), yes, it’s supported. The Intel X3100 also supports OpenGL 2.0, DX10 and SM4.

Someone said on a forum that EVE Online you can’t play with it, though. Not sure why, but the issue was traced back to the video card.

    Hope this helps.

If you didn’t decide yet what to buy, and you have a few days, I’m testing two other, cheap notebooks. You might be interested. I will publish the reviews this weekend, if you’re interested.

The notebooks I test are cheap, both are below 500 euros in my country (EU country). I’m just writing the reviews for a Benq and a Toshiba notebook, not sure if Benq is available in your country though, because a Benq representative stated that they have export embargo on some former Yugoslav countries… pity from their side.

Check the reviews out when they will appear online, you might like them.

Regarding the games, I have to admit that I’m not a gamer, I guess i could count on one hand the games I played. I test with The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion because it’s a resource eater as far as I know and the benchmarking tools’ results can be very incorrect as some manufacturers write their firmware in a way to perform well on some benchmarking tools. If Oblivion is playable, I guess WOW is also playable. In eMachines’ case it was quite a bad idea to load that game as it didn’t look good at all and the gaming performance was also quite poor. OK, a bit better than poor, but I still wouldn’t play on it Oblivion.
You should check the games’ requirements I guess. Anyway, the Intel Mobile video cards were not made for gaming, I can’t say this enough.

I use it for work (server management) and for development and for this purpose is excellent.

Dreamweaver CS3 works excellently, the software I use for server management, including the IPMI software, FTP and SSH/Remote Desktop performs very well. Better than I thought.

Let me know if you need help or advice, I’d be glad to help.

    Hey Methode,
Hmm guess ur checkin my IP huh ?!! How dare you ?! Jokin xD
Well thanks for the info .. I never wanted to see Oblivion not to play it :) Well i downloaded few vids from YouTube about x3100 running WoW but is that visual info enough i dont know .. And yea few other games worked too(but all depends on version of drivers installed ) :((
Well the purpose of Lap Top will be :
Am goin to work in another country so,ill need Net at 1st place ,then music, movies(multimedia ofc) and last would be some little gaming like playin WoW,WcIII thats all , well ill check game req for other few games but for WoW is :
    * Intel Pentium® III 800 MHz or AMD Athlon 800 MHz
    * 512 MB or more of RAM
    * 32 MB 3D graphics card with Hardware Transform and Lighting, such as NVIDIA® GeForce™ 2 class card or above
    * DirectX® 9.0c (included) and latest video drivers
    * 6.0 GB available HD space
    * 4x CD-ROM drive
    * A 56k or better Internet connection
Sry for this big post :)
Well can u atleast give me the models of that Toshiba,Benq notebook’s ur writing reviews to check here in stores or ill just w8 for live review here :D
    cheers

  68. methode on Sat, 27th Sep 2008 8:46 pm

That’s my idiocy… I have to know everything which happens on my server, who passes by, who clicks where, what pages did you view, etc. Sorry. But check the http://devoracles.com/privacy-policy, everything remains on the server, no worries :)

Now there are performance reports too on Youtube? Next time I will see my cat sleeping on the neighbor’s dog… :|

The Benq is a JoyBook A52, I’m quite pleased with it, I’m writing this from that notebook. My only disappointment is the short battery life… that’s quite low. This one is 490 euro where I live.
And the other is a Toshiba Satellite L300, I’m inclined to not recommend this one for anybody, but my foes :|, anyway, its price where i live is ~475 euros.

If the prices are higher in Serbia, you could check the prices in Hungary or Romania, depending on in which side of Serbia you live. I heard both have cheap shops. Or, I usually buy from an online store and pay for the courier only when the item arrived to me, that way I’m protected, can’t loose money and the online stores are way cheaper than the retail shops in the streets.

The req’s are OK for most of the modern notebooks. I guess it should work.
BTW, you won’t convince me to install WOW on the emachines notebook ;)

  69. makiztar on Sat, 27th Sep 2008 9:15 pm

He,he .. Next time ill watch what am doin here ..
    http://devoracles.com/privacy-policy Cool ? :D
Well u should check uTube sometime ? muxaxaxa :))
I was postin on some Serbian forums about x3100 and some guy was postin uTube links so i was about to check and u should too, atleast u can try .. xD

The Benq model i didnt see anywhere but Toshiba .. U can find it almost anywhere, well the model L300 with Celeron M cpu’s etc is about 440-460e here but models with dual core ones are 530e+..The info is right coz am checkin on most viewed official site with all stores info in Serbia tho .. http://www.itsvet.com If is this commercial u r free to delete the link i posted :)
Well one model of L300 i can afford but only difference between its and eMashine is 200gb hdd Gfx r same so am stayin’ on eMashine choise ??

Install it plox? Cmon its so universal and almost all types or person’s plays it ? Ok me again with jokin .. But i know that u r installing it :)

Ok lets finish this .. My lastest questions are :
X3100 gfx rendering quality depends on drv version ? Which one r oke ? Well with HW rendering enabled ill be pleased ?
I like Aspire 5315 rly coz its Bmw design etc , eMashine got some casual design in all black colour and only differences here is that 5315 got Celeron on 1.73 512mb and 80gb hdd,eMashines Celeron 2.13ghz,1gb ddr2,120gb ..
    Lastest question :
Design or Hardware inside ? :S Strange question i know ..

  70. methode on Sun, 28th Sep 2008 11:07 am

OK, here is one review: http://devoracles.com/the-benq-joybook-a52-should-make-you-happy/293
WoW works fine on the JoyBook.

will answer your questions later a bit.

  71. makiztar on Sun, 28th Sep 2008 2:44 pm

Well that Benq model isnt bad at all , but the thing is i cant find it here at all,Core Duo platform .. I think am gonna stay on one of Acer’s model’s .. Well am waiting for ur answers .. thanks

  72. methode on Sun, 28th Sep 2008 2:49 pm

And here is the toshiba’s review: http://devoracles.com/toshiba-satellite-l300-only-if-you-can-ignore-the-headaches/294

Read it, but please do not think about to buy one.

First, on the eMachine e510 WoW works fine :|.
Secondly, why don’t you tell me which notebooks do you think you’d like to buy, and i do my best to test them. This applies to anyone. I have access to almost all the notebooks and would happily test them for you.
Drivers are the second heart of a hardware, so you should always have the latest drivers installed. As a general rule, if the driver is up to date, the performance of the hardware will be better.
When you want to buy a PC, i recommend you to look for the hardware first and only then to the item’s design. A notebook can look awesome, but it can have lower performance than a dead snail.
Let me know if you have more questions :)

  73. makiztar on Sun, 28th Sep 2008 3:16 pm

Well i have some rly bad feeling about that review .. Or its very bad(i mean not review but nootbook in the review ^.^) ?And another voice in my head said to me Not o Buy it :)
So i will not .. Well gd job on ur side u tested..

And on those last two Benq and Tosihiba u tested WoW nice to see it :) And it works fine with WoW so its cool then ..
Well then eMashine will be(Well u tested WoW on it ^^) .. 5315 got rly nice design, lot better then eMashine.. but 512mb of memory , 80gb hdd(i can go over it),cpu well its 200-300 mhz only No ?

Well hardware on eMashine is way to better ..
Thanks and i appreciate all info u provided ..
    Thanks :)

the emachines.com dont work do page display i live in romania .

also devoracles webmaster please alow to can downl;oad the drivers from :
http://devoracles.com/drivers/emachines/e510/ or put all in a zip file

  75. methode on Mon, 29th Sep 2008 6:14 am

    Hi edifice28,

If you live in Romania, you could try http://emachines.ro/ro/home.html
    That should work for you.
Also, I won’t allow directory listing on the server nor will I put every driver in one single ZIP, because the first is a security risk, the second would saturate the bandwidth in no time, sorry.

Let me know which drivers you need and I post the link to it, but if you visit the above eMachines link, you should be able to download everything you need.

Let me know if you need further help. :)

    Hello ,
am back again with this part of one your topics u said: “I have access to almost all the notebooks and would happily test them for you.”
Here, this is kinda off topic but is there any chances for u to test an FSC v5535 Core2Duo,2gb mem,160gb hdd,15″ etc ..
Or mybe just an opinion about that model would be great..
    Thanks
p.s. Yea , some other options came,i mean some other choices for notebook.. :)

  77. methode on Tue, 30th Sep 2008 9:14 am

    Hi again,

I phoned the firm and the Fujitsu-Siemens Esprimo will arrive to me later today.
Probably will take about one day to test it fully, you know, batteries, OS switching, drivers, etc. so most likely the review will be online the day after tomorrow, that makes, Thursday (?)… well, what day is today? Tuesday?

But that Esprimo if i’m not mistaken is around 500-550 euros. Isn’t that much a bit? For that money I guess you can find a Dell Inspiron or even an HP. I guess.

Anyway, The review of the Esprimo will be available the day after tomorrow, whatever day is today. :)

  78. makiztar on Wed, 1st Oct 2008 8:36 am

Well am not in hurry i have a time till 6. Okt..
    Thursday would be fine. :)
Ya the price is about 550 but am good at talk and i the actuall price for me would be about 450-500e(35,000rsd),42,000 is the real price :D
I was thinkin about Msi EX610 too :( Dunno am so confused atm ..

Lot of FSC Models are with SiS chipset so the Cpu is Core2Duo i guess the chipset will be one of Intel 960/965 express series no ?
Coz i have some rly bad opinion with SiS Chipset and i would like Intel ones i have a choise no ? I mean i can ask for Intel chipset..

X3100 is integrated and i dunno is HW(T&L) supported by SiS Chipset’s..

    Thanks

  79. Smoke on Wed, 1st Oct 2008 9:02 am

Thank you very much….but such silly thing as blue death, if it would cry about not finding any HDD, finding the problem should have been easier.

  80. methode on Wed, 1st Oct 2008 7:19 pm

I heard only bad about Sis video cards. Really.
Shall I grab the MSI too? It’s not a problem and maybe it will be useful for others too, if I write a review about it.

  81. methode on Wed, 1st Oct 2008 7:21 pm

    Hi Smoke,

Yeah, blue screen never means good :)

Fortunately, that was the only annoyance I encountered with the emE510

    Thanks for the comment.

  82. makiztar on Wed, 1st Oct 2008 7:49 pm

Hmh .. Well for now Fsc Esprimo 5535 Review would be great , well the Msi EX610 i didnt mention it to them but i think its in the same price range ..?500-550e? Or even much ? :S
And yeah SiS is bad chipset and if they want to give me that ill say em few things coz i know what i need or ill try to ask for Intel Chipset i guess .. :) I checked Fsc models and almost all of em are SiS M672 based .. I think i MUST talk to them about INTEL ones ..
    Thanks again :)

  83. makiztar on Wed, 1st Oct 2008 7:52 pm

Sorry for double posting i didnt understanded ya :)
Ya you right those s3 mirage video cards are bad but Intel x3100 is integrated but id like it on Intel chipset not on SiS one , any opinion? :)

  84. methode on Wed, 1st Oct 2008 8:38 pm

My bad, MSI EX610 i can’t access. MSI EX710, 600, 601 only these. the cheapest is the 601, that is ~500 euros. the rest is much more.

If I were you, i’d choose only intel chipset. I trust intel because… dunno why, i just trust them. If you can, I’d recommend you to get Intel Chipset.

I’m writing this from the Fujitsu notebook. I’m quite satisfied with it so far. :)

  85. makiztar on Wed, 1st Oct 2008 8:54 pm

    Ex600 ? :))
Hmh the thing is EX610 is default Turion 64 x2 based, and Ex600 is Intel Centrino based but theres versions with C2D ..
I have a feeling that 7xx series is lot of money,be concentrated on MY BUDGET! he,he.. Again me with my jokes :)

Yea agreed INTEL chipset only :)
U trust Intel coz u hear about it in every move, anywhere SiS is another story , story for self ,, Dunno why Fujitsu even work with em ? Or Sis is theyr i dunno ..

    He,he .. Fsc,hows typing feeling tho ?
And what version u get Intel or SiS based chipset ? Graphics ? Ahhh again me with my borednest ill w8 for review xD

Cheers and thank you,i really admire you :)

  86. methode on Wed, 1st Oct 2008 9:11 pm

I won’t tell you now. Tomorrow at this time you will know. Well. it’s 11 PM at you? or 12AM :S, whatever, it will be online.

    The 7xx is expensive.
Typing on the Fujitsu Esprimo is better than on the emachines. it’s somehow softer. The position of the buttons is the standard one so switching from emachines to this is no issue.

BTW, an MSI with integrated number-pad is cool.

You admire me? Well, I live on coffee, sleep about 6 hours a day, smoke 2 packs of cigs and see only IT equipments all day long. Still admiring me? :) Think again :)

  87. makiztar on Wed, 1st Oct 2008 9:24 pm

Its 11 Pm too .. :) Ill wait for it .. Not a problem ..

Ahh dont push it ! :) Am not sure about Msi yet :S
Must talk with store tomorrow ore something ..

Still i do :) It is cool i was about to work with IT or how to say it,but got another opportunity and totally different type of job, still am computer freak no1 can change that heh! :)

Ok,strange thing is .. U remember http://www.itsvet.com?All stores in Serbia sticked together..hm? All of 5535 FSC Esprimo was with Sis m672/m968 or chipset didnt mentioned at all , theres no word of Intel chipset on that model of Fsc , all video integrated was OMG SiS Mirage .. What To Do ? U heard something about that model havin Intel chipset and x3100 video actually ? Guy in store told me but over a phone :( And that store doesnt have WebSite.. Pff
I wont let that seller to give me stupid SiS chipset,ok maybe is GOOD chipset am checkin it atm but video cmon .. its SO SO BAD .. Agreed ?

    Notebooks -.-

  88. methode on Thu, 2nd Oct 2008 1:18 pm

Well, we can’t say it’s really bad. If they still producing it and people buying it, it shouldn’t be that bad. I guess :?
The thing is, I have only bad memories with that chipset, that’s all.

You’ll see in the review what chipset it has ;)

  89. methode on Thu, 2nd Oct 2008 7:21 pm

OK gals and girls, heres the review for the Esprimo: http://devoracles.com/the-fujitsu-siemens-esprimo-v5535-tests-and-review/312

If the batteries would last more, I’d sell my eMachines just right now on eBay and would go for that Esprimo, whether it has Intel GFX chipset or not.
Man, That notebook rocks plugged in! It’s a piece of art! (If I don’t consider the HP Elitebook which is still my favorite).

The SiS chipset rocked the hell out of Oblivion (WoW also, but that’s easy to understand why since you provided the requirements)

If you have the $1000 for this notebook and you wouldn’t use it too much on batteries, I’d buy it, that’s sure.

And… If you’re not satisfied with the SiS chipset, you can put in it an Intel M or anything else.

  90. makiztar on Fri, 3rd Oct 2008 12:17 pm

    Heya,
I rly liked review .. Damn, have u any banners around some big web sites ? U rly earned that .. :) People need to know about this site xD
Well i said something there about batteries ..

So SiS Chipset isnt bad at all thats good ..

And its not 1000$(about 600-700e),heres much cheaper as i said about 550-600e(42,000 RSD) i succeded to decrease the price for about 35,000 RSD(450-500e) xD

Hmh,i was about to read about changing hardware on notebooks(graphics, chipset) and all i readed that is very risky .. So ill not gonna think about it .. :)

Well lets start to spam on http://devoracles.com/the-fujitsu-siemens-esprimo-v5535-tests-and-review/312 ..
    We kinda off-topic here a lot :)

    Cheers

Howdy folks. I see you’ve had quite a talk here about laptops and especially e510. Some of you wondered if you could play any games. Well, I myself play a lot of games (when I have spare time ) and i can tell you some of which are working : NFS PS, Driver || Lines, WTTC RACE, FIFA09, AOE3. These are some of them. I could say that you can do much with this laptop.
Wish you all good luck. Cya.
