Backlinks to your site!
by Gary IllyesThere was an era when everybody was fighting for any type of backlink to his/her site.
It seems this era is still floating in the air, mostly because the SEOs still push the note and because, the truth is, is still somewhat important. But let’s see what is its importance.
The SEOs say it’s extremely important to have many backlinks (many, a few hundred or thousand), because Google ranks your site batter if you have many. This is less than half true.
Google changed a lot in the past few years. Better said, its engine and its algorithms are changed – I think I don’t lie if I say, on daily basis.
In the past, the more backlinks you had, the better your site ranked. This is not 100 per cent true nowadays. I think not even 50.
Nowadays Google takes in consideration much more things than you can rapidly think of. Backlinks are one of the many things Google looks for, always keep in mind this.
A common practice amongst the webmasters to buy backlinks. This means, they pay for a high-traffic site to put a link somewhere on that site. This is forbidden by Google and by all the major search engines. The answer for the “Why” question is very simple: the payed backlinks are driving unnatural traffic to a website.
Think of a balance. In balanced circumstance webmasters put links on their websites which are related to their content. If a payed link appears on a website, that is most likely unrelated to the content. So the balance is broken, the crawlers will follow the links anyway, they will index the paying site, too, which will appear in the search results in the unnatural way. This is not good. At least in my humble opinion.
So what is the backlinks’ importance?
They drive traffic to your site. That’s all. The more backlinks you have, the more visitors you will have, thus more revenue.
How can I get more backlinks?
Believe me or not, it’s easier than you think and cost you absolutely nothing. Have content. A lot of content. Again, believe me or not, sooner or later each of your posts will be interesting for at least one visitor. If that visitor is a webmaster or a blogger, it will link back to you. It’s that simple.
Verdict on backlinks
Backlinks are hyperlinks on other sites to your site. The more sites you have links on, the better since more users will visit your own site by clicking on the backlinks. And more users almost always means more revenue.
Every webmaster should follow one way: post content and link back to the source of the content if applicable. In no way pay for a link on any website, be it the CNN or Yahoo!, it’s just simply bad.
