The new googleads.g.doubleclick.net domain ads code has problems with security. It is trying to use Ajax from the hosting domains to itself, which causes lots of security errors in new browsers (like Firefix 3.0.4, Safari 4, IE 7/8).

If you search the net for "Security Error: Content at http://googleads.g.doubleclick.net/ may not load data from ..." you see the scope of this problem.

Looks like their ads code is choosing a domain randomly, so some times the ads may not even show at all because of this error - while other times you wont see the error.

Anyway, its a major headache - and no fix from google in sight.

Actually Adam, if you block the ad servers we use, you block our revenue mainstream. If so, we will switch from free-for-all mode to subscription based service and charge you with say $4 per month. Would that be better? I can hardly believe...

Blocking is easy, the way you do it is foolish...

Interesting to see the changeover in server.

I actually maintain an active HOSTS file on my PC that blocks ad servers and so I was surprised to see ads return to the internet recently. Just checked the host and it was "googleads.g.doubleclick.net" which I have now had blocked.

My problem with DoubleClick is that they've historically been notorious for loading spyware/adware etc through their ads.

Oh well, they're blacklisted too, now so that means more advertisement-free internet for me!

It's 3-4 days before the publishing day of this article, which is December 4, 2008. We observed way before publishing but had to wait for approval for publishing from the owner of the site.

Sincerely, i don't really think that's plausible that just because they switched the domain your stats should be lower. There has to be another, plausible reason else the whole internet would shout and scream blaming Google for the loss of their revenue.

Thanks again methode,

It is PHP, and I'll try that fix just as soon as I get back from boating--Have to take a *little* time off.

I'll let you know if it works. Also, do you know the approx date that google started serving with doubleclick--I could go back and verify (or not) that that is actually the problem with my hits and clicks.

Thanks again,
