As per an announcement made by Patrick Walker, Director of Video Partnerships at YouTube (Google Inc.), UK based users will be unable to watch certain music videos because YouTube can’t arrive to an agreement with Performing Rights Society for Music (PRS for Music).

The blockage begun on Monday night and affects everyone who lives in the United Kingdom, but they are still able to view videos which are in no relation with PRS for Music — videos which are not produced and provided by the record labels which are in relation PRS for Music. PRS for Music represents over 60,000 performers, but failed to communicate which music videos are affected by the blockage.

“Our previous license from PRS for Music has expired, and we’ve been unable so far to come to an agreement to renew it on terms that are economically sustainable for us. There are two obstacles in these negotiations: prohibitive licensing fees and lack of transparency. We value the creativity of musicians and songwriters and have worked hard with rights-holders to generate significant online revenue for them and to respect copyright. But PRS is now asking us to pay many, many times more for our license than before[.]“, Patrick Walker said.

He also ensured the users, that they are working on a solution and they hope their dispute will end very soon because they recognize the “significant disappointment”.

Lately, this is YouTube’s second case when they have revenue sharing issues, the last one was in December, 2008 when Warner Music decided to move off from YouTube.
